Hurricane Sandy

Preparing for Hurricane-Blizzard Sandy!  Strange that we're preparing for hurricane-like weather and my family, who live in the Appalachian Mountains, just a few hours south of us are preparing for blizzard-like conditions!  They're expected to receive 2+ feet of snow!

We've declared a state of homeschool emergency today!

Perfect day to snuggle with my little ones.

Praying that everyone stays safe!

Spooky Night

Our newest neighbors are over.the.top!  They are an elderly retired military couple who LOVE to decorate for every holiday/event!

They moved here last October from Georgia with the biggest U-Haul available, which was filled with only Halloween and Christmas decorations!  Can you imagine renting and driving a U-Haul filled with only decorations?!   This is their "first" year decorating here for Halloween and boy, did they decorate! (Last year's Christmas was insane too!)  They installed a black rod iron fence (just for Halloween) that surrounds their entire front yard, then filled it inside with every imaginable Halloween decoration available on the market!

The process began on the first day of Fall and within a few days we had a Scooby Doo scene down the street, with lights and music that begin every night at 5pm.   It's quiet a scene and has become a local hotspot!

The girls decided to be Daphne and Velma this year for Halloween...perfect costumes for pictures in our neighbor's yard!

After our photo shoot, we headed downtown for some spooky fun!

Parading around town, making noise, while gathering treats from local businesses!

It was so nice that main street was blocked off, so the kids could enjoy walking around without worrying about traffic!  It was even nicer to see all the kids out having a great time with their parents and seeing so many local businesses participating.

Stopping by our favorite local business downtown, the toy store!!

We ended the evening with a spooky story told my a local business owner outside under the starry night with more treats!

Go Hokies!

We're Virginia Tech fans!

Well, everyone in my family, except my husband!

The girls made Grandad an extra special birthday gift!

Looks like Grandad liked his gift!  Score!

Letter S: Sun

Mac will be beginning My Father's World, Kindergarten in January, when she turns 4.  Personally, I believe MFW Kindergarten is more on a preschool level, not that my child is a genius!  Ha!

Anyway, I've been preparing to get everything ready, and Mac is so excited that she begged to do something out of the enormous MFW binder!  Since, she has been learning about the sun, I gave her letter S...

Rolling play-doh snakes to create the letter S.

Tracing the letter S, while saying it's sound...

She really surprised me with her writing skills!

Coloring, cutting, and pasting pictures that begin with the "s" sound.

Deciding which pictures begin with the letter "s" sound.

She was so excited to complete her "school" work!  Anxiously waiting to begin MFW with her in January!

Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear?

We've been studying the fourth day of Creation, while learning about the sun, moon, and stars.  In addition, the girls have been discovering what causes day and night and the reasons for the seasons.

This seemed like a perfect time to row the book, Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear?

I'm so grateful for all the little bears that I found at yard sales this summer!

Izzie and Mac enjoys "dressing" all the bears!

We discussed appropriate clothes for each season.  We were in the middle of switching out spring/summer clothes to fall/winter clothes, so it was fun for the girls to dress for each season!  One reason Mac has a tank top on in October!

Another cute book that we read was Bear Gets Dressed.

Bear Gets Dressed: A Guessing Game Story

Mac also had a fun time completing the following preschool activities!
